A local domestic abuse advocate says the Ravens' release of New Rochelle native Ray Rice was the right move.
The Ravens cut Rice after a new video was released showing February's physical altercation between Rice and his future wife inside an Atlantic City casino.
Nancy Levin, the chief development officer for My Sister's Place in White Plains, says calls to their domestic hotline spiked 10 percent after Rice's initial incident went public.
She says such a high-profile case could prompt victims to come forward.
"The NFL is speaking out loud and clear, saying they will not tolerate violence against women," she says.
Initially, Rice was given a two-game suspension. Many called it a slap on the wrist, pushing NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to make a change to the NFL policy.
