Advocates rallied near Ground Zero on Sunday, calling on lawmakers to pass a full extension of the Zadroga Act before it's too late.
The federal fund covers medical expenses for Sept. 11 first responders who suffered illnesses related to the cleanup.
Parts of the bill are set to expire in October 2016.
Advocates want a fully funded and permanent bill.
"We don't need members of Congress to stand up and say 'Never forget,'" said Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. "We need them to stand up and fight for these families."
House Speaker Paul Ryan has said he is committed to passing an extension by the end of the year.
