A Pleasantville native is excited that the curtain will rise again on Broadway in September.

"I think it's going to be so emotional," says actress Ali Ewoldt. "I think we're all going to be so thrilled to get to look into each other’s eyes, to really get to create art together,” says Ewoldt.

Ewoldt, who has performed in productions like "Phantom of the Opera" and "Les Misérables," has been trying to remain busy since her job went dark last March due to the pandemic.

To keep her creative juices flowing, Ewoldt derived the idea for a singalong last spring.

Complying with social distancing rules, the actress, a group of neighbors, including her parents and dog, performed one of the biggest songs from "Les Misérables."

Along with entertaining the Hudson Valley, she’s also been keeping busy at home in New York City.

"It's been of things from my apartment from my house. I did a full green screen musical of 'Meet Me in St. Louis,'” says Ewoldt. “I did a performance at a drive-thru…where I got to sing songs from 'Phantom of the Opera' while a taped movie played behind me."

Although she has been able to successfully pivot, Ewoldt says she cannot wait to rejoin the real stage.

"I think what makes theater this magical is this communal experience where the audience is with us and the orchestra and the crew, and everybody involved is in the same space at the same time,” says Ewoldt.
