The Kingston Police Department is mourning the loss of a former lieutenant, James Brooks.
Brooks passed away on Tuesday, and public services have yet to be announced.
He was hired to the force in 1977 and rose through the ranks before his retirement in 2011.
The Kingston Police Department said "Jim was not only an effective leader, he was a mentor and a friend to many."
They said he'll be remembered as someone who truly cared about his colleagues.
