Family and friends bid a final goodbye Wednesday to longtime Dutchess County sheriff.
Members of the public and law enforcement poured into the Convention Center in Poughkeepsie for the wake for Adrian "Butch" Anderson.
The 73-year-old died suddenly last week in his Village of Pawling home.
Many shared fond memories of him. "Butch was about 'what can I do for you,' not 'what can you do for me?' He was more than a policeman, more than a sheriff. He was somebody that wanted to take care of everyone, and that's what he did," said Fran Pomarico, of Poughkeepsie.
"A great human being. Someone that always reached out to the community and worked for the community. He was a great guy, and it's a sad day here in Poughkeepsie," says Gary Cooper, of Poughkeepsie.
Today's funeral will be at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie. A host of notable names are expected to speak at his funeral, including Eric Trump, son of former President Donald Trump.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Sheriff Adrian Anderson Memorial Fund.
A private burial will take place after at Clove Cemetery.
Anderson is survived by his wife Danielle and his four children.
