Yonkers Police Lt. Roy McLaughlin died on Thursday after a battle with brain cancer.
It is believed that McLaughlin, a 17-year veteran of the force, contracted the deadly disease while aiding in the cleanup and rescue efforts after the collapse of the World Trade Center.
McLaughlin is remembered as a devoted family man who leaves behind a wife and four children. His funeral is set for Monday at St. John the Baptist Church in Yonkers.
An online donation page has been created to help McLaughlin's family.
Wake services were held for McLaughlin Sunday night.
