Eight public schools in Yonkers and one in Mount Vernon are listed as failing by the state.

The eight schools in Yonkers are the Cross Hill Academy, Roosevelt High School, Robert C. Dodson School, Community School 13, The Scholastic Academy for Academic Excellence, Museum School 25, the Enrico Fermi School For the Performing Arts and Martin Luther King Junior High Technical Computer Magnet School.

The A.B. Davis Middle School in Mount Vernon was also on the list.

Cross Hill Academy has been on the list for 10 years. This means Cross Hill could be taken over by the state if it doesn't turn itself around.

Teachers union President Pat Puelo says Gov. Andrew Cuomo is to blame. He says the governor likes to say it's not about money, but Yonkers has a shortfall of $28 million this year.

"I feel that the kids shouldn't be affected by any financial problems that the world has to deal with," he said.
