An 8-year-old from Rye Brook has proven that something as simple as a haircut can help another child feel more confident and happy.

Oliver Andruk, affectionately known as "Ollie," just completed his third hair donation to Children With Hair Loss (CWHL), a nonprofit organization that provides free human hair replacements to children and young adults facing medically related hair loss, including those battling cancer and alopecia.

His started donating his hair in March 2021. He donated a second time in December 2021, and his latest donation took place on his eighth birthday in Rye Brook on June 4.

Ollie donates in memory of his late grandmother, Eileen Rubnitz Levinson, who died on Sept. 15, 1999. He never had the chance to meet her but honors her spirit through his selfless acts of kindness.

Francesca Sanford, the hairstylist who has performed all three of Ollie's donation cuts, not only snips the hair but also assists with the donation paperwork to ensure each ponytail reaches CWHL.

"We couldn't be prouder of his compassion. In a world often focused on appearance, Ollie has chosen to grow his hair long not for style, but for service," she says.
