At least eight people are displaced after a fire broke out inside an apartment building in Spring Valley today.
Fire officials say the flames ignited around 10 a.m., nearly gutting a basement apartment and damaging the unit above it.
Sheeler Lubin, who lives upstairs, called 911.
“I woke up to the scent of smoke and then I go downstairs thinking that something or someone left something on. And when I realized it, someone started knocking at the door like crazy and then I found out that it's the house under us.”
Firefighters had to stretch their hoses over 500 feet to get to the nearest hydrant because ones closer to the building were still buried in the snow.
