Dozens of people, including seven from the Bronx, have been arrested in a child pornography bust that spanned the New York Metropolitan area.
Seventy men and one woman were arrested by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. One Bronx suspect has been identified as Daniel Pinero. Among the other suspects are a police chief, a Brooklyn rabbi, and a man who is a Boy Scout leader and Little League coach. The woman, arrested in New Jersey, was allegedly producing pornography of her own child to share online.
The investigation began in January when former Mount Pleasant Police Chief Brian Fanelli was arrested in Westchester. He pleaded not guilty to his charges earlier this week.
Investigators say they have seized nearly 600 laptop and desktop computers, tablets and smartphones containing thousands of pornographic images of children. Investigators are still combing through evidence and say more arrests are likely.
