Seven families are homeless after a fire sparked at a Rockland County home Friday.
Fire officials say it started on the second floor at 29 Collins Ave. in Spring Valley at around 10 p.m. A neighbor says he sprang into action when he saw smoke billowing out of the home, and was able to help alert everyone inside.
Officials say everyone made it out of the building safely, including 14 adults and seven children. They say the fire was contained on the top floor.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Red Cross is assisting the families with temporary housing.
