A sergeant and five officers at the Eastern Correctional Facility in Ulster County were hospitalized on Thursday.

Officials say they experienced lightheadedness and high heart rates while trying to find the source of an unusual smell.

State senator Rob Rolison has called for an investigation into similar incidents.

Previously, eight officers were reported sick at Woodbourne Correctional Facility in Sullivan County.

Officials say several other cases required life-saving medical treatment.
