A Dobbs Ferry mother is outraged after her kindergartener left school this week and walked home without anyone noticing.
Heather Valentin says her 5-year-old daugher Autumn got confused and couldn't find her classroom at Springhurst Elementary School. Valentin says Autumn then left the building because she was scared, and even passed by other parents who did nothing to stop her.
Valentin estimates Autumn had to walk about 75 steps after she left school to get to Beacon Hill Drive, where a crossing guard helped Autumn cross the street.
The Dobbs Ferry police oversee the crossing guards, but isn't taking any disciplinary action against the guard who helped Autumn cross the street without parental guidance. Police tell News 12 that the crossing guard was not aware the child was only 5 years old.
The superintendent of Springhurst Elementary School says the procedures at the school are being addressed.
