Five Hofstra University students were arraigned Saturday in connection to a dorm room robbery on the Hempstead campus.
Police arrested 19-year-old Michael Smith, of Mount Kisco, along with three other students for allegedly stealing drugs and cash from fellow student Gregory Sable, 22, because they were unhappy with the quality of cocaine they allegedly bought from him.
According to investigators, the plan unfolded when 20-year-old Adi Kauf-Stern went to Sable's room at the New Complex dorm to purchase $50 worth of cocaine Thursday. That is when Smith and Timothy Gallo, 19, allegedly entered the room wearing masks and carrying two BB guns. Police say the suspects stole cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy and $5,000 in cash from Sable, who was also arrested after he reported the robbery.
The judge placed an order of protection for Sable's suitemate, Bart Zienkiewicz, who said in an excusive interview with News 12 Westchester he was threatened with a gun during the robbery.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty to a variety of charges, including robbery and criminal possession of a controlled substance. They are due back in court March 31.
