Metro-North commuters should feel safer at the Yonkers station after a new police sub station was installed, providing 24-hour police presence.

MTA Police Chief Kevin McConville says the multi-million dollar renovation of the police station will increase commuter safety. McConville says the facility will house police officers, detectives, K-9 units, emergency services and the highway unit. The police station renovation also includes new surveillance cameras throughout the facility and new jail cells.

The reopening of the sub station coincides with the continued rejuvenation of downtown Yonkers. McConville says not only will the MTA police have a full-time presence at the station, they will also contribute to the security of downtown Yonkers.
