An alert has been issued in Westchester County after radioactive material was discovered inside a garbage truck.
Village of Port Chester officials say the situation is affecting trash collection for some residents living near Locust Avenue.
Officials say the truck has been quarantined after the radioactive material was detected.
The vehicle will remain out of service until radiation levels decrease to a safe level, a process that could take days or even weeks.
As a result, some garbage collection services in the area may be impacted.
Village officials are reminding residents to check with their doctors before disposing of medical waste that could contain radioactive material.
No injuries or public safety concerns have been reported.
