A 47-year-old man is dead following a stabbing outside a men’s shelter in Highbridge on Monday, according to police.
Investigators say the stabbing happened at around 11:10 p.m. on Monday outside the men’s shelter at 926 Sedgwick Ave. Officers responding to the scene found the victim unconscious and unresponsive with multiple stab wounds to his stomach.
Police sources say the attack was sparked by an argument between the victim and his attacker.
The man was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators remained on the scene Tuesday along Sedgwick Avenue, where police tape continued to block off part of the street hours after the deadly attack.
Crime Scene Unit investigators spent much of the morning collecting evidence and documenting the scene. A large bloodstain remained on the sidewalk behind police tape as detectives continued their investigation.
Authorities say one person of interest has been taken into custody for questioning. However, no charges had been announced.
Police have not released the victim’s identity while family members are being notified.
The investigation remains ongoing.
