Two U.S. Postal workers are accused of stealing nearly $15,000 in checks from mail that they were supposed to deliver in Brooklyn, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.

Prosecutors say Nicole Bernard and Kenisha Hazzard stole checks from residents along their East New York routes and deposited them into their bank accounts.

They say Bernard, who was employed as a city carrier at the East New York Station located at 2645 Atlantic Ave., stole multiple checks between March 2023 and Jan. 4, 2024.

Hazzard was also employed at the same station as a City Carrier Assistant and stole seven checks between Oct. 6 and Oct. 31, 2023.

The alleged thefts affected 10 victims.

Both women have been arraigned on separate indictments.

Bernard, who was arraigned on Oct. 6, is charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument, several counts of grand larceny and petit larceny.

Hazzard was arraigned Monday and was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument, petit larceny and attempted petit larceny.

Both were released without bail and are expected to appear in court separately in December.
