Multiple Garden City businesses are picking up the pieces after a fire on Saturday.

Some of the businesses on Franklin Avenue have signs on the doors that indicate they will be closed.

"We're shut down right now because of the fire. Hopefully we get open soon," says Matt McBride, co-owner of Mesita.

Mesita is one of 10 businesses that were affected by the fire. They're working to get the doors back open as soon as possible.

"We didn't get a lot of damage. It was just in the back where the wires come into the building. The wall went on fire between the two restaurants, and they had to break the wall down," says McBride.

Fire officials say a transformer caught fire and impacted the building.

Then, around 1 p.m. Saturday, fire officials came back for a call about an outlet smoking in the basement of a three-story building. Officials say there was also smoke in the basement.

"My thoughts were hopefully the whole building doesn't burn down," says McBride.

No one was injured. But fire officials say repairs need to be made to the damaged electrical system and gas pipes need to be checked.

"It really affected the main meter room that services the office building upstairs. These two restaurants tie into that as well. So once they went down, kind of everybody went down," says Jonathan Matzelle, who is the property manager.

Matzelle says he is hopeful repairs can be made quickly.

"Getting the parts, getting the materials, getting all of that is really such a substantial delay," says Matzelle.

Fire officials are still trying to determine the exact cause of the fire.
