A 12-year-old boy was killed and two men were injured in a shooting Saturday afternoon in the Mount Eden section of the Bronx, according to police.

The gunfire erupted just before 5 p.m. near the corner of Elliot Place and Walton Avenue.

Police say the 12-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder. He was taken to Lincoln Hospital and later died.

The two other victims, ages 25 and 34, were also struck by gunfire but are expected to survive. Police said a 25-year-old man was shot in the buttocks, while the 34-year-old man was shot in the foot.

Authorities had not released a description of the shooter nor disclosed the relationship, if any, between the child and the two adult victims as of Saturday night.

It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting.

Neighbor Dave Peralta said he was inside his apartment after he had returned home from work when he heard the gunfire.

"I just got out of work, headed home, went inside, settled down for the day, and suddenly heard two shots go off," Peralta said. "I thought it was fireworks, so I didn't think much of it, but then looked outside and saw people run in the opposite direction."

A large police presence remained at the scene Saturday night, with roads around Elliot Place and Walton Avenue closed as detectives continued to investigate.

No arrests had been made as of Saturday night.
