As a national parasite outbreak triggers widespread food recalls, local stores are taking action to ensure their shelves are safe.
Gabriel Rocha -- health and safety protocol manager at Gala Foods in Bridgeport -- says his store requires rigorous safety protocols to prevent the spread of potentially deadly Cyclospora amid a national outbreak.
With 24 years of experience, Rocha says temperature controls and vigorous cleansing are essential to ensuring food safety before products ever reach the point of sale.
"But this is something we have always done to ensure Gala customers are safe and can have peace of mind when they shop here. It's what has always worked and it's what continues to work as we serve our customers with absolute professionalism and pride," he said.
