Childcare continues to be one of those fastest growing issues facing families and providers alike in New York.

But a new initiative aims to tackle the challenge of pay for early childhood educators.

Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins and Westchester County Operations Director Emily Saltzman spoke to News 12’s Jonathan Gordon to talk about the state of childcare in the area.

In a new initiative, the New York Community Trust is funding wage increases for 100 childcare workers at three nonprofits in Westchester for the next three years.

New York Community Trust’s Westchester Branch Vice President Laura Rossi joined this week’s “Power and Politics” to talk about her hopes for improved recruitment and retention for childcare programming.

And the new pilot program aimed at investing money into staff salaries is trying to see if it will increase retention and open up for seats for kids in the future.

The Lois Bronz Children’s Center in White Plains, Mount Kisco Child Care Center and the Elizabeth Mascia Child Care Center in Tarrytown are three three providers who will receive the grants.

Westchester legislators David Imamura and Jewel Williams Johnson reacted to the program.
