Police tape blocked off the cross street between Parkside Place and Decatur Avenue after the shooting.

Investigators say they responded to a call of an assault at E. 207th St. and Decatur Avenue at around 12:08 a.m.

There they found a 23-year-old man shot multiple times in the torso. The victim was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, but did not survive.

Luis is a father of two in the area, he said his family thought the bullets ringing down the street were fireworks. This morning he’s concerned for the safety of his children.

“It’s frightening because the kids, now we have to walk them the other way around. It’s nerve wrecking, we’re not use to this,” he said.

At the crime scene, more than 10 evidence markers laid on the concrete down E. 207th St.

Sources told News 12 they believe two men are behind the deadly shooting, and they took off in a black BMW.

Police have not made any arrests right now.
