Hundreds gathered at the Church of St. Gregory the Great for a funeral mass, paying their respects to Kenneth Fusco Sr., a man remembered as both a dedicated first responder and a pillar of the community.
Fusco served as a Harrison firefighter for 45 years and was among the many who responded to ground zero in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks.
In the years that followed, he battled illnesses linked to his service at ground zero. He died on May 18, and his death is being recognized as a line-of-duty loss, underscoring the continued toll of 9/11 on first responders decades later.
Those who knew Fusco say his impact went far beyond his service in uniform. Community leaders and residents describe him as someone always willing to lend a hand and put others before himself.
Following the funeral, the Harrison Fire Department honored Fusco’s legacy by presenting his gear and ceremonial honors to his family, a powerful tribute to his years of service and sacrifice.
As Harrison continues to reflect on Fusco’s life, many say his legacy will live through the countless people he helped.
