POOR AIR QUALITY TODAY - HEAT BUILDS

Long Island Storm Watch Alert Crawl

Sun and clouds are with us today, along with warm to hot weather conditions. An air quality alert is in effect from 11 a.m. through 11 p.m. for high levels of ozone, so some people may have trouble breathing, especially those sensitive to poor air quality. Please do not overexert yourself, especially if you have health-related heart or respiratory conditions. You can still enjoy the outdoor summer-like weather, but just do so safely.

High temperatures this afternoon will reach the 80s to near 90 degrees in western Nassau County, with 70s at the beaches. The UV index is also on the high side, so don’t forget the sun protection. Moderate rip current risk. High rip current risk on Saturday. Always swim when life guards are on duty.

Long Island tonight forecast

Saturday brings a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the 80s, and some low 90s possible from western Suffolk County into Nassau County. It will stay cooler at the beaches, mainly in the 70s. We’ll track late-day showers and storms, especially toward sunset, followed by scattered showers and thunderstorms Saturday night with brief heavy downpours and gusty winds possible. Best chance of showers or thunderstorms will be from 7pm to 2am. Some storms could have brief heavy rain and strong gusty winds.

Long Island tomorrow forecast

A few showers or a storm may linger Sunday morning, then sun and clouds return Sunday afternoon with highs in the 70s to low 80s. The good news is that most of the day looks dry.
