Nine workers at Fishkill Correctional Facility were taken to a hospital Monday after a “possible exposure to an unknown substance.”

According to the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, “five incarcerated individuals appeared to be intoxicated in their dorm and were not following staff direction.”

Corrections officers and security staff displayed symptoms after addressing the situation.

A News 12 source says the officers and staff may have been exposed to fentanyl.

One correction officer had to be given a dose of Narcan which can reverse the effects an opioid overdose.

The five inmates were examined by medical staff and remained at the prison.
