A vintage train car-style diner in Wall Township is back up and running.

The Roadside Diner is located on Route 33 and 34 and was recently refurbished by husband-and-wife team Maria and Nick Kallas.

The couple purchased the sought-after Roadside Diner earlier this year when the previous owner retired. Nick and Maria’s fathers co-owned the old Parsonage Diner in Edison. They eventually got married.

“This is our first day open. We’re excited. I got my boys here, hopefully one of them takes over the business…we’re excited to start cooking,” says Nick Kallas.

Customers who spoke with News 12 on opening day say that they are excited to see what comes next.

“He polished up the whole diner, put up the new road sign…it’s tremendous what he did,” said one customer.

“I heard a guy, he was coming here for 40 years. All these little stories and that’s the joy of a diner. You don’t just come here for the food, you’re coming here for the community,” said another customer.
