The grieving family of a military wife from Monroe is alerting her hometown community to her tragic death after they say she was murdered by her husband in Japan while he was serving overseas in the U.S. Navy.

Jessica “Jesse” Olsen, 37, was killed last October during a violent domestic attack, according to her family. Her husband, Lt. Commander Christopher Olsen, was federally charged five months later in the homicide and had his first pre-trial court hearing in San Diego, California late last month, according to the victim’s sister, Dominique Arguinzoni.

The couple were allegedly off base in Fukuoka, Japan celebrating his birthday when Arguinzoni says the 37-year-old was strangled and fatally struck in the head by Olsen. Olsen was stationed in Sasebo, Japan.

Arguinzoni, who lives in Goshen, says their family has barely received any information from federal officials since the tragedy and have yet to obtain her belongings.

“From the very beginning, our family has been treated like an afterthought. While trying to grieve, we were forced to chase answers, making countless calls to officials who passed us off to someone else, only to be ignored again,” Arguinzoni says. “We are still left making repeated, unanswered requests for basic updates. No answers to our questions about the next legal steps. No clear communication, no respect. This silence from the Navy is not just inhumane, it is part of the injustice.”

A representative for the U.S. Navy confirmed the federal case against Olsen but didn’t comment further.

News 12 reached out to Olsen’s family in Binghamton, New York for comment but didn’t immediately receive a response.

His trial will be held on the Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan this October, according to his attorney.
