Brush fire breaks out in Greenwood Lake

A minor brush fire broke out just north of Greenwood Lake on Friday.
Officials say firefighters received a call around 12 p.m. about smoke coming off the Appalachian Trail near Lakes Road along the border of Monroe.
Multiple fire departments responded to help.
The fire wasn't massive, but officials say it was challenging to get to because of the rocky terrain.
"Rough terrain, rocks," says First Assistant Chief Joseph Russo, with the Greenwood Lake Fire District.
Fire crews were able to contain the fire within a few hours.
They took extra precautions to make sure it didn't spread.
No one was injured.
"We're making the fire line as wide as possible, trying to keep it as wet as possible so hopefully we avoid any jumps overnight and hopefully the rain will assist us as well," says Second Assistant Chief Brian Dobbins, with the Monroe Fire Department.
Officials said the fire was contained Friday evening, but state Forest Rangers will continue to monitor the area, according to the Town of Warwick supervisor.
