The Yonkers Public Schools have addressed concerns following new federal immigration enforcement policies.

"Our job is to educate, and you know, we are going to continue to do that. Regardless of rumors or anything that is changing in the political landscape," said Yonkers Federation of Teachers President Samantha Rosado-Ciriello.

The district is the third largest in New York state.

According to its website, it incorporates students from "100 cultures, backgrounds, and nationalities."

News 12 received the following statement Friday morning from Yonkers Public School's Communications Officer Akeem Jamal.

"Aligned with the Yonkers Public Schools commitment to safeguarding the rights of all students, the District has shared New York State Education Department guidance with building leaders regarding the rights of immigrant students. Per this guidance, law enforcement will not be allowed on school property to remove students based on immigrant status without a judicial warrant. Our focus is creating safe spaces for all students.” Akeem Jamal, Communications Officer.

News 12 reached out to the City of Yonkers and the Yonkers PTA, but has not heard back.
