Pelham residents are starting to see the progress of two big development projects downtown.
The two projects are the new village hall and a 127-unit apartment complex right across the street from each other on the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Third Street.
"We're very excited," says Pelham Mayor Chance Mullen.
It's all happening because of a deal with the developer Hudson Companies to build the apartment complex where the old firehouse and old parking lot were.
"We sold it, $6.8 million worth of land, for about $20.3 million up front in the form of new facilities," says Mullen.
News 12 got a tour of the new village hall. It will house administration and the police and fire departments and it'll be the first time they're all under the same roof.
Village officials say this will make it easier for daily projects and emergencies.
"To just sort of walk down the hall and talk with your other heads of department, it's a game changer for us," says Mullen.
"Operationally, it's just a lot easier to move around," says Chief Robert Benkwitt, of the Pelham Fire Department.
The apartment complex will be called Pelham House. The five-story residential development will be a mixed-income project with 219 parking spaces and 60 reserved municipal spaces.
Village officials and residents are excited about more business these projects will bring.
"I am looking forward to it being more foot traffic and having more business," says Tamon Dawson, a New Rochelle resident who works in downtown Pelham.
But some are concerned about it being more difficult to find parking.
"If we have stuff to take out of our cars, we usually have to go around the block because as soon as you double park, the cops are already on you," says Charyl Bates, a Pelham resident.
Construction for this village hall will be done at the end of February or early March. The apartment complex is expected to be completed in summer 2027.
