A hiker is safe thanks to a daring rescue near the Hudson River along the Palisades Cliffs.

On Sunday, two women called 911 after finding a man stranded 300 feet up the mountain side, off the Long Trail. First responders accessed the area from the River Trail but soon realized additional manpower was needed.

"It was a complex operation," said Daniel Goswick, second assistant chief of the Piermont Fire Department. "Once they got the victim down, they used a 600-foot rope to bring them all the way down. Team members passed him down as they came down the road."

The rescued hiker is recovering and in stable condition.

The Piermont Fire Department cautioned that paths in the area can be hazardous for hikers.
