Recent heavy rains and storms are forcing the Westchester Health Department to ban swimming at 10 beaches on Wednesday.

The following beaches are closed until further notice:

  • Mamaroneck: Harbor Island, Beach Point Club, Orienta Beach Club, Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club

  • Rye: Coveleigh Club

  • New Rochelle: Hudson Park Beach, Davenport Club, Greentree Club and Surf Club

The bans come after the county saw more than two inches of rain within a span of 24 hours.

The closures were caused by potentially high levels of bacteria due to runoff from the storm drains, homes and water treatment plants.

The Mohegan Beach Park District Beach was also closed today, but that closure was due to the presence of a harmful algae bloom.
