First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon took a unique approach to gun violence prevention education on Saturday.

A blacksmith from the nonprofit RAWtools turned an unwanted gun into a garden tool – forging the weapon on site.

While organizers made it clear that the event was not an invitation for the public to turn in their unwanted guns, they said they hosted the demonstration to raise awareness and funds for an upcoming gun-turn-in event they are having in November.

"The entire point of this is to take an instrument that had been an instrument of pain and suffering and turn it into something that gives life, and hope and healing to a community," said Pastor Margery Rossi.

The event was organized by RAWtools, First Presbyterian Church, South Presbyterian Church in Dobbs Ferry and the Scarsdale Friends Meeting.
