Family, friends memorialize former Westchester County legislator Herman Keith

According to information on the county's website, the former county legislator passed away back in June after a long illness due to complications with Alzheimer's disease.

Community members gathered at Community Baptist Church to celebrate the life of the honorable Herman Keith, Westchester County Board of Legislators' first Black lawmaker.

According to information on the county's website, the former county legislator died back in June after a long illness due to complications with Alzheimer's disease.

The website said Keith was originally from Alabama and moved to Yonkers. He worked many jobs in his lifetime, according to this information too.

It said he served in the Army, worked as an engineer and underwater research scientist, was president of the Yonkers branch of the NCAAP, spent 12 years as a Westchester County legislator including roles as minority whip and minority leader.

He is survived by his wife and five children, according to the website.
