Walk for Housing raises money for Habitat for Humanity Newburgh

About 300 people attended the annual Walk for Housing that was hosted by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh on Sunday at Washington's Headquarters.
"This walk has been going on for 25 years, as we have been in the city of Newburgh building houses for low- and middle-income families for 25 years," said Jill Marie, the executive director of Habitat for Humanity Newburgh.
She said the walk was a great way to connect with the community and raise funds for the work that they do.
"It costs about $350,000 to build a house here. We sell to families for approximately $150,000 ," Marie said. "So, the difference is up to us to make up."
Marie told News 12 that they hoped to raise around $15,000 on Sunday.
Past beneficiaries, like Olga Adan, also came out to support the cause, too.
Adan told News 12 she got her home from the group in 2006. She is now close to paying off her home.
Looking back at her journey, Adan said she is still grateful for the opportunity that she got back in 2006.
"Back then, I was a single mom with two kids. I had already applied twice, [or] three times, I can't remember, to a bank, and they would never approve me," Adan said.
Years later, Adan said she and her kids now have college degrees too.
"I think that without Habitat, I would have never been able to do it," Adan said.
