Gov. Kathy Hochul highlighted New York state's significant progress in combating gun violence and promoting public safety on Monday. She revealed gun seizures have surged 160% since she took office, with nearly 1,500 firearms confiscated in 2023 alone.

Hochul also touted the state's "red flag" laws, with police filing over 1,300 extreme risk protection orders in 2023, leading to the seizure of over 2,500 guns from individuals deemed a threat.

"The law is working as intended, saving lives," Hochul stated. "Fewer guns mean less gun crime."

Outside New York City, shootings have decreased 36% and murders have fallen 30% over the past two years.
