Bridge repairs finally restart for commuters in Putnam Valley

Work has restarted on a long-delayed infrastructure project in Putnam Valley.
Over the last three years, a series of repairs have stalled on Peekskill Hollow in the lower part of the county and it has led to safety concerns for commuters, bus drivers and first responders.
"There's a genuine excitement to see it not only start but be completed and that's what we're all driving towards," said Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne.
"With all the school buses traveling over that bridge I think should be a priority," added Putnam Valley resident Andy O'Grady
A new contractor, E-L-Q Industries, was recently appointed for the project after the previous contractor walked off the job in 2021 and left the road in a state of disrepair.
E-L-Q Industries, just began a two-week inspection and corrective work process. The entire project -- which includes multiple bridge repairs, lane widening, new sidewalks, turn lanes, traffic signals, and drainage -- is expected to be done in exactly one year.
The two main bridges are expected to be done within the next nine months and the rest of the work should be done by the end of July 2024.
