When voters head to the polls this Primary Day in New Rochelle, they will be greeted with two familiar names on the ballot - County Legislator Damon Maher and City Councilwoman Yadira Ramos Herbert.
Herbert is an associate dean at Columbia University Law School, but she says she also played a pivotal role during the city's darkest hours in history when New Rochelle became the epicenter of the nationwide COVID-19 outbreak in early 2020.
Maher served five years on the county board and says he's running to bring a new style of leadership to City Hall.
In a city where Democrats outnumber the Republicans more than 3 to 1, there's a good chance it's one of these two Democrats who could make a lot of those important decisions.
There is no Republican mayoral primary this year, so whichever Democrat wins will take on City Councilman Louis Trangucci in the November election.
