Two men involved in a botched drug robbery that turned fatal were sentenced to prison in Orange County court today.
Jacquelle James, 21, was sentenced to 22 years to life for murdering 36-year-old Jared Plante, of Newburgh. James admitted to shooting the man in the stomach in January while trying to rob him of a large amount of marijuana. Plante was found dead inside his car, which crashed into a vacant Mount St. Mary College dorm.
Daryl Daniels was sentenced to five years in prison for his part in the attempted robbery.
Both men pleaded guilty to avoid a trial.
Plante's mother was emotional after the sentencing and spoke after court. "This has probably been the most emotional week in my life and I've encountered many losses," says Janice Plante.
