Two New City dogs were taken into custody Tuesday morning after police say they escaped from their home, traveled 2 miles to another neighborhood and mauled two pet goats to death.
Marie Harrow, 83, says she watched her two beloved pet goats, Poppy and Sunny, get mauled to death inside the pen she keeps in the backyard of her home. Harrow says she heard groaning at 3:30 a.m., and when she came out, she found that the dogs had climbed the 9-foot fence to kill the goats.
She says this is not the first time this has happened. She says that two years ago, it is believed the same dogs came into her yard and killed two other goats she had. News 12 has learned that the owners of the dogs in question were forced to pay a fine two years ago because their dogs escaped.
A Clarkstown Animal Control officer brought the dogs to Hi Tor Animal Care Center. It will be up to a judge to decide their fate.
Harrow believes the dog owners should be held responsible for what happened.
