Two brothers are facing charges for stealing tips left out in front of homes in Putnam County.

Police say the suspects, Gustavo, 29, and Matthew Castillo, 25, were apprehended with Christmas cards and envelopes addressed to sanitation workers. They say the pair was arrested after a resident reported seeing two men in a white pickup truck looking through garbage cans placed along the curb.

Investigators say the Castillos are also accused of similar thefts in nearby New Fairfield, Conn.

Police are warning residents to not leave cash tips outside and recommend handing out any money personally.
