A 105-year-old Westchester nursing home has decided to shut down its facility beginning next month.
Officials say the decision to close Victoria Home “has not been made lightly, especially considering that Victoria Home has endured numerous monumental changes in its 105-year history as a not-for-profit provider.”
Residents will be transferred to a new facility of their choice on Aug. 24.
The nursing home was involved in a building project over the past few years that has since been put on hold.
According to the statement, with additional demands brought on by COVID-19, the Victoria Home Board of Directors had no choice but to take this action.
Ossining Mayor Victoria Gearity says she’s saddened to hear of the facility’s closure.
“It’s a really wonderful facility demonstrating so much kindness for the people who live there,” says Gearity. “They have opened their door to me and others during the holidays...It will really be a loss for Ossining.”
Victoria Home was the first nursing home in Westchester to be tested for coronavirus.
