One person was killed in a fire that ripped through an apartment complex in Mount Vernon.
The fire broke out on the Columbus Avenue building's fourth floor around 6:45 p.m. Saturday.
More than 100 people were evacuated from the complex's four buildings.
A partially blind man in his 70s who reportedly was heading toward the door when the smoke caught up to him was killed in the blaze.
No other injuries were reported.
Five families were displaced by the fire and are being helped by the Red Cross.
At this point, authorities say the fire does not appear suspicious.
