Yonkers teen gets 11 years for fatal drive-by shooting
A Yonkers teenager convicted of fatally shooting a college coed in a drive-by shooting was sentenced to a minimum of 11 years in prison Wednesday.
Anthony Burton, 18, was convicted in July of fatally wounding 19-year-old Jessica Santos, of Tarrytown, in a drive-by shooting outside a Yonkers deli last year. The shooting occurred days before Santos was supposed to return to college to begin a new year.
Burton was convicted of second-degree manslaughter and weapons possession. Four years for an unrelated drug charge were included in the sentence. Burton was riding in the back seat of a car when he fired six shots, one of which pierced Santos? chest.
Santos? mother called Burton an evil, wicked man who was a menace to society. While the sentence offered some closure to Santos? family members, her mother said Burton?s family can at least visit him in jail. She said can only visit a headstone at her daughter?s grave site.
