Yonkers teen facing gun charges may have been victim of bullying
A 16-year-old Yonkers boy is in court today accused of bringing a loaded handgun to Roosevelt High School yesterday morning.
School sources tell News 12 that Alrick Bucknor was in the Dunkin' Donuts shop across the street from the school and some students saw he had a gun in his backpack.
Those students told security officers who then located the teen in his classroom just before 9 a.m. The officers were able to get the loaded .22 caliber handgun without incident.
The teen was quickly escorted off the grounds and turned over to police.
Bucknor's classmate Asante Shaqur says that Bucknor was new at Roosevelt High School and having trouble. Shaqur says some students were verbally abusing his friend and on Monday Bucknor asked for his help; "He said he had some problems and if I can help him and I told him I couldn't get in trouble and I told him not to do anything stupid."
There is no word yet on where Bucknor got the gun or how he was able to get it inside the school. Students say they are checked before they go in the building, but there are always ways around it.
Bucknor is in police custody and is being arraigned at city court today.
