The Macy?s in Yonkers is giving procrastinators an early Christmas present with 24-hour-a-day shopping.

The gimmick of keeping the store open 24 hours a day through Christmas Eve was first tried by Macy's last year at a store in Queens. It proved so successful that the company is keeping eight stores open around the clock this year starting Friday. One of those stores is located at the Cross County Shopping Center.

A spokesman for Macy's says the idea is to take the stress out of holiday shopping. The ?shop-til-you-drop marathon? will run through 6 p.m. Christmas Eve.

Many retailers have been extending store hours to combat disappointing holiday sales. Economic worries are apparently keeping shoppers from opening their wallets. Macy?s is hoping the 24-hour-a-day shopping event will help its bottom line.
