Lt. Andrew Murphy said the crew donned wetsuits and entered the rising water at around 7 p.m. before rescuing the man, using ropes and an inflatable boat.
"We train every day. We come to work expecting there will be a time when we have to pull our tools out," said firefighter Richard Miscioscia.
The motorist, said to be in his 20's, was uninjured and declined medical attention.
"For us, serving the Yonkers community is a beautiful thing and we all come to work wanting to do that," said firefighter Marc Baclija.
