Monday's Supreme Court decision that gives states the power to allow sports gambling is due to have a profound affect, positive or negative, on many nationwide.
While many are cheering the decision, one profession that is going to take a hit is the bookie. The fixture in New Jersey urban living could soon be out of business.
But despite the fact bookies are normal to some sports fans, some have been tied to organized crime.
In 2015, feds shut down beteagle.com, a sports gambling site run by Dominick Brown, of Springfield, and Eric Patten, of Bayonne. The duo pleaded guilty to racketeering.
Feds say Beteagle was a Genovese crime family operation that raked in millions.
Illegal bookies might still survive by avoiding taxes and fees and attracting bettors with promises of credit, but that remains to be seen.
On the other side, the big winner of all of this are New Jersey's racetracks and the farms that support those tracks.
Some tracks say they were struggling to get by before this decision, and now they have new life.
