Westchester teams up with LI counties to buy police cars at lower cost
Westchester has partnered with Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island to purchase police cars at a cheaper cost.
A total of 217 police cars will be purchased by the three counties, with 27 of them coming to police departments in Westchester. Westchester County police will get 19 of them.

County Executive George Latimer says by partnering with Suffolk and Nassau counties, they expect to see huge savings.

"By buying in bulk, the same principal applies when you go to Costco or Sam’s or something like that. We're going to be able to save some significant money,” says Latimer.

With the purchasing agreement between all three counties, officials say they expect to save 15 to 27 percent on police cars, and between all three counties that could total to $1 million in savings.

Latimer says this could open up the door to make similar partnerships for other purchases.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone says everyone wins in this agreement.

"What this means for Long Islanders is that your government is operating more efficiently and we're saving taxpayers’ dollars, and this becomes a model for what government can be and should be doing all across the state,” says Bellone.
